A Discussion on Sexual Coercion

It all started on Instagram when I shared an excerpt of a book I had just read (Girls & Sex: Navigating the Complicated New Landscape by Peggy Orenstein), I did so because it broke my heart that I could relate to it, and could imagine some women would too.

But I never thought I’d get the outpouring of messages and answers that I did, so, wanting to have something solid for women to share, I made this video.

What happens in a culture where boys are taught that their job is to pressure girls into sex, and girls are taught that their job is to resist? = Coercion, crossed boundaries and so much damage to girls and women.

The thing is, most men (even good ones) don’t realize they are doing it because of the roles we all are taught to play from childhood.

Every woman and girl is allowed to say “yes”, but, in the best case scenario she would be able to tell the difference between a wholehearted YES!, and being “convinced” or pressured for sex. Where’s the line? And what can we do about it?
