10 Activities to Try out this Spring!

Looking for some fun Spring Recreation activities to get into? We put together a list of 10 (of the MANY) things we have going on this quarter. 

Underwater Basket Weaving

Basket weaving is cool, but have you ever tried UNDERWATER basket weaving? On Sunday, April 22nd, you can learn how to make a basket underwater while sitting in the spa at Canyonview Pool. You can take home your basket and will even receive a diploma for your efforts!

Moon God Full Moon 5k Run

Moon God 5k is open to everyone! Runners/walkers will race on paved roads and sidewalks and traverse the beautiful UCSD campus; run past moonlit bears, snakes, falling houses and the Sun God, which are all some of UCSD’s giant outdoor art pieces. Dance to music and enjoy some food at the finish line! Proceeds support student leadership programs at UCSD.

Sun Salutes with Ricky Paniagua

On Saturday, April 21st from 12-2pm, you can go on a journey into the Surya Namaskar A-Sun Salutation A by attending the Sun Salutes workshop led by Ricky Paniagua. The workshop will cover the history and meaning of embodied Sun Salutation and teach you the postures, transitions, proper alignment and modifications, and when breathe during the sequences. It is great for beginning students of yoga or those wanting to deepen their practice.

Personal Training

Are you looking to get in shape but don’t know what workouts to do? Personal training sessions will give you the resources you need while working with a trainer. Available in private or semi-private sessions and if you buy 10 sessions, you get one free. Get in shape today!

Snorkel La Jolla Cove

Explore the amazing world beneath the ocean’s surface with this Outback Trip on Sunday, May 13th! La Jolla Cove has astounding sea life, ranging from Garibaldi (the California state fish) to Leopard Sharks (harmless to humans). Grab a snorkel and immerse yourself in this world with Outback Adventures!

Raquetball Rec Class

In this Rec Class, you can learn and improve the correct approach to forehand, backhand, scoring, serving, and strategy of racquetball! Class levels are beginning, intermediate, and workout, giving you the opportunity to sign up for the level that fits your skillset!

Boulderdash

Boulderdash is an annual bouldering competition at Outback Climbing Center. It’s an all-inclusive event for all ages and skill levels and will have categories for beginner, intermediate, and advanced female and male climbers. Top competitors will win prizes! Registration includes a 1-year membership to Allied Climbers of San Diego! Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 14th from 1-6pm.

Intramural Sports

You can play UNLIMITED intramural sports for only $7 a quarter, so make sure to sign up for one or more of these sports this spring! 5-on-5 unofficiated basketball, dodgeball, indoor soccer, innertube water polo, softball & kickball, spikeball, team rock climbing, team tennis, and volleyball. Registration starts March 26 so get some friends together and start a team!

Training for Parkour Rec Class

What better way to learn parkour than to do it in the safe environment of a Rec Class! Learn how to vault, climb, and balance for parkour in our gymnastics center in Main Gym. Learn some new skills to impress your friends!

Kayak Jousting Competition @ Canyonview

Two people. One tandem kayak. One jousting pole. Explore the watery world of the future, where heraldry returns to an exceptionally watery planet. You and a partner will compete for the crown at San Diego’s premier (and only) Kayak Jousting event on Friday, April 13th. One of you will paddle while the other balances upright on a kayak, with pillow padded jousting pole in hand you will attempt to de- kayak your opponent.
